Dayton Audio Classic Series woofers are excellent for use as replacement speakers or for new loudspeaker system design and construction. The DC160-8 6-1/2" woofer has developed quite a reputation for having the best bang-for-the-buck performance and value available anywhere. You can even be use the DC160-8 as a small subwoofer! The excellent low frequency performance will amaze you.
A non-pressed treated paper cone allows for smooth frequency response, while the high temperature aluminum voice coil and vented pole piece combine to increase power handling without compression. Longevity is ensured with the use of a rubber surround, treated cloth dust cap, and an extended bump plate.

Good value, Good Sound
By: Geoff Millar on 9 November 2016I used this mid-woofer in Paul Carmody's "Classix II" speakers, which pair the DC-160-8 with the VIFA BC25 tweeter. I'm very happy with the sound and bass response, which is excellent for a 6" woofer. The sound is not up to Dayton Reference standards, but then it's only half the price. The sound is rather like that of an LP compared to a CD: a bit richer and warmer, which works well with poorer quality recordings. The mid range is a bit muted, but this also means that you can listen to the speakers for hours. Because the midrange is a bit restrained, it is important to match this with an appropriate tweeter and crossover, and the Classix II certainly does that well. Recommended for smaller rooms rather than large living rooms (unless you do a 5.1 system) and these need to be on stands rather than on a shelf. The DC160 is used in many DIY projects and is a good woofer for the price.
